VJC Softball Girls fought the 'match of their lives' in the finals on 25/5/09 & finally beat RI(JC) 3-0 in sudden death to reclaim the 'A' Division Title & become champions again! They were dominant in the earlier rounds, beating even one of the title favourites HCJC 5 - 2. Oustanding players include Kelly Chong (Pitcher) and Cerigwen Ng (Captain).
Inspite of having players who were very new to the game, VJC Softball Boys also did the college proud when they outplayed some experienced teams enroute to their 4th-placing overall. Special mention for the Captain, Leo Chia who had sacrificed countless time and effort to keep the team going.

2009 Nationals Schools 'A' Division Soccer
Both the boys' and girls' soccer teams won the championship title at the Nationals Schools 'A' Division during 2 exciting matches at Jalan Besar against MJC and SAJC respectively.
Our soccer girls totally annilated their opponents in the earlier rounds with double-digit scoreline in some of the games. In the final, they outplayed SAJC 3 -1 to clinch the 'A' Division Title in a match that they dominated. Notable players include Rachel Wong (Top Scorer Award), Chia Jiemin (Vice-Captain) and Bethany Koh (Attacking Midfielder).
For our soccer boys, it was slightly more competitive, having to play through the first round, quarter-final, semi-final and final before they could clinch the title. Although they had little trouble breezing through the earlier stages, they overcame a stubborn ACJC 3 - 0 in the semi-finals and edged out MJC 3 - 2, scoring in injury time in a closely-fought match. The season must have belonged to Alex Bui (Top Scorer Award), Wee Wei Liang (Captain) and Anders Aplin (Playmaker).

Budget 2009 Essay and Video Competitions
3 of our students, Wong Su-Ann (08S30), Wong Neng Wei (08S30) and Han Hao (08S43), participated in the Budget 2009 Essay and Video Competitions and emerged top prize winners. The Competitions, organised by MOF in partnership with the Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), the Straits Times (ST) and Channel NewsAsia (CNA), were open to all students studying in Singapore and Singaporeans studying abroad. While the Essay Competition tries to foster critical thinking and creative expression on public finance issues amongst Singapore's youths, the Video Competition provided youths with the opportunity to express their views using a different medium.
The Video Competition drew entries from local schools, which captured the essence of what the Budget meant to our youth and how it has impacted them and their families - through creative portrayal ranging from news documentary to puppetry.
The students demonstrated total commitment and dedication, working late for many weekdays and even consulted with their teacher during breaks in between their lessons and also on weekends. Apart from winning the top prize of $500, the students learnt about the constraints of policy-making, applying the economic theories and concepts as well as the political aspects of policy measures.
