Chinese Orchestra

Date: 18 June 2012 (Monday)
Time: 9.00 am onwards
Venue: Chinese Orchestra Music Room (2nd Level of the Performance Theatre)
Format: All applicants are required to play 1 fast and 1 slow phrase of at least 16 bars each. Applicants may also be given a sight-reading exercise.

Choir

Date: 30 June 2012 (Saturday)
Time: To be Confirmed
Venue: LT4
Format: All applicants are required to undergo an interview, as well as a vocal testing exercise conducted by the choir master during the auditions. No song preparation is necessary.

Dance

Date:  6 July 2012 (Friday)
Time: 4.30 pm to 7.00 pm
Venue: Performance Theatre
Format: There will be two sections to the auditions.

  1. All applicants will be required to prepare a solo piece to a song of their choice, of not more than 2 min. Any genre of dance is most welcome - dance genres could include hip hop, jazz, ballet, latin, ballroom, tap, breaking, popping, locking, the list is inexhaustible.
     
  2. Shortlisted applicants based on the first round will then be invited to follow our resident choreographer through a short piece of choreography.

We are looking for versatility in applicants, in terms of excelling in more than one form of dance as well as high levels of technical competence in the applicants' respective areas of dance expertise.

Attire

  1. All applicants should audition in the dance gear and footwear suitable to their dance genre for the first section.
  2. Auditions for the second round can be conducted in sports or general dance gear.

Guitar Ensemble

Date:  21 June 2012 (Thursday)
Time: 9.00 am onwards
Format: All applicants are required to play a piece of their choice lasting 5 min. Applicants are also required to sight read a piece provided by the conductor.

String Ensemble

Date: 4th June 2012 (Monday) and 17th June 2012 (Monday)
Time: 9.00 am to 12.00 pm
Venue: Mathematics Resource Room
Format: All applicants are required to prepare two contrasting pieces of their choice, lasting 10 minutes in total. Applicants might also be asked to sight read a piece provided by the conductor. Applicants should have attained at least a Grade 6 in the instrument they are auditioning in and/or have at least 4 years of experience playing the instrument.

Symphonic Band

Date: 15 June 2012 (Friday)
Time: 9.00 am onwards
Venue: Band Room (Near Canteen)
Format: All applicants are required to play 2 contrasting pieces of their choice. Percussionists should prepare 1 piece on mallets and another piece on drums. Applicants may also be given a sight-reading exercise.
