Co-curricular activities (CCAs) are integral to a balanced and
holistic education of our students. They provide opportunities for
character building and nurture life skills and attributes such as
leadership, teamwork and compassion.
At the same time, students can pursue their interests, forge strong
friendships and pick up specific skills. Of course, students have
fun too.
To encourage student participation, VJC provides a wide range of
CCAs ranging from sports and performing arts to special interest
clubs and leadership councils.
In addition to the formal internal CCA structure, VJC encourages
and supports student-initiated activities (SiAs) as well as students'
participation in uniformed groups.
Further participation in community-based activities (eg. community
clubs, youth groups) provides scope for nurturing the spirit of
social enterprise and also enhance students' links with the community
at large.

PEARLS - CCA Scoring System
The PEARLS scoring system is used for admission into NUS and NTU
(until 2006).
University Admission (2007 onwards)
From 2007 onwards (affecting the 2005 JC1 cohort), NUS, NTU and
SMU will assess qualitatively students' involvement and achievements
in CCAs and CIP. Considered for the universities' discretionary
admission system, the qualitative assessment is in place of a quantitative
score and will look at desired attributes such as leadership, creative
flair, passion and commitment. This is to allow for a more holistic
and meaningful assessment of students' qualities.
