Joanne Peh: Miss Singapore 2002 contestant

Charisma, charm and poise are qualities Joanne Peh believes a beauty queen should have. Joanne was talent spotted by someone involved in the Miss Singapore Pageant 2002 and was invited to enter the pageant. Seizing the opportunity to gain more exposure to pageants, this VJC alumnus gamely took up the challenge. However, she soon found out that it was not all glamour and glitz. Participating in a beauty pageant, she said, required a tremendous amount of work and preparation.

The whole period of preparation, and the big event itself left Joanne no time to be anxious or nervous about the results. At the pageant, Joanne clinched two awards - Miss Personality and Miss Elegant. Although she did not make it to the finals, she was happy with her performance.

When asked if she would enter another pageant again, Joanne said that entering the beauty pageant was a one-off experience. Her purpose in participating in Miss Singapore Universe was not about gaining recognition; rather, it was more about challenging herself to achieve greater heights.

Joanne is currently studying at The School of Information and Communications at NTU. She aspires to become a journalist after graduation. However, she said that, given the opportunity, she might enter the entertainment arena and carve a niche for herself. She believes that one should take up challenges in order to expand oneЈr horizons and scale new peaks in life.
